Local consistency of model

Is your programme model consistent across your geographic area, or are there regional differences?

Stiftelsen LESE has a coordinating role, and contributes materials, guidance and professional knowledge and competence to municipalities that implement Bookstart. The regional differences relate to the number of book packages, and cooperation between the sectors within the municipality. In some municipalities, the program is a collaboration between the library and the health center. In other municipalities, it also includes collaboration with kindergartens, literature houses and other institutions. We collaborate with the Sámi Parliament, which distributes Sami children's books to families, both in the Sami-speaking area and in other parts of Norway. Sami is a Nordic indigenous language group, and the project promotes parents to speak and read in sami to their children.

The program is under development. From autumn 2026, the program will include three gifting pack: • 8 month old babies: The book “Revungen” • 2 year olds: The parents can choose one book out of two different books: Åse og Kjeks or Dyrenes tellebok. • From 2026: Extending to 4–5-year-olds with a book gift at 4-year health check. In addition, we are handing out a booklet with information regarding the importance of reading for the development of language.
